The Mandarin Chinese program is designed for beginners. The emphasis of the program is on providing children with a Mandarin learning environment where they will be exposed to songs, stories, games, and activities to learn the target language. The focus will be on listening to and speaking Mandarin Chinese, and developing an understanding of Chinese culture by learning about major holidays, such as Chinese New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival. Starting in Junior Kindergarten, students will also have the opportunity to read and write traditional Chinese characters. Stroke order and the principles of writing Chinese characters will be taught in the class, and students will practice writing often to aid retention. We want to make learning the Chinese language a fun and interesting experience, using games, puzzles, rhyme and songs, arts and crafts, and matching games.
"Exposing your child to a second language at an early age can actually change the way your child's brain is structured by forming connections that otherwise would not be formed. These connections seem to be not only necessary for learning language, but are beneficial in many other academic areas: study after study shows that students who have studied a second language do better in other seemingly unrelated areas such as mathematics and logic."
