Getting to Know Our Character/Bible Curriculum

At Oakridge, we believe every child deserves to grow up knowing the stories that have shaped so much of our shared history, culture, and moral imagination — the story of Noah's faithfulness, David's courage, the Good Samaritan's kindness, the Prodigal Son's homecoming.  Our founders believe strongly as shared in our mission, vision and school description in Judeo-Christian values.

   

Knowing the stories, not being told what to believe

Our founders had one simple wish that every Oakridge student would grow up knowing the Bible's stories and developing good characters. Not memorizing doctrine. Not being told what to believe. Just knowing the stories — the way you'd want your child to know Aesop's fables or the myths that show up throughout literature and art. Your child's beliefs, and your family's beliefs, are yours to shape. 

 

What we're really teaching: character

At the start of each story are the Oakridge character traits with a Bible story. We use these stories as a window into six character traits we care deeply about — Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Fairness, and Citizenship. A story about Daniel isn't a lesson in religion; it's a conversation starter about courage.

 

A story about the Good Samaritan isn't a call to convert; it's a conversation about kindness to a stranger.

As your child grows through our program, this grows with them — younger students learn to spot these traits inside a story, and by the time they're older, they're reflecting on how to actually live them out, in their friendships, their choices, and their daily lives.

 

Warm, welcoming, and never heavy

We keep every lesson positive and age-appropriate — no heavy theology, no fear, no judgment. Your child will never be told that what your family believes, or how you live, is wrong. 

 

Everyone is welcome here

There's a moment in the Gospels where Jesus is asked, "Who is my neighbor?" His answer is beautifully simple: everyone. That idea is really the heart of our whole community. Oakridge families come from every background and belief, and we love that about our school. This curriculum reflects the same spirit — it's about learning to love, respect, and welcome one another, not about who believes what.

 

We hope your child learns more than a list of stories they can name. We hope they leave with a little more kindness, a little more courage, and a genuine sense that everyone — every single neighbor — is worth welcoming.
